{"id":8390,"date":"2022-01-09T13:33:15","date_gmt":"2022-01-09T12:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bordas-sa.com\/?p=8390"},"modified":"2022-10-11T15:29:01","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T13:29:01","slug":"lilial-replacer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bordas-sa.com\/en\/lilial-replacer\/","title":{"rendered":"LILIAL REPLACER"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1605103508690{padding: 0px !important;}&#8221;][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;REPLACEMENT OF LILIAL: THE CHALLENGE IS OVERCOME&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h1|font_size:43|text_align:center|color:%23b3101f&#8221; google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Playfair%20Display%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1665477804243{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221;]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Butylphenyl Methylpropional<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (BMHCA), also known as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lilial<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">green-floral fragrance ingredient<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that has been widely used in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">perfume industry<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for years, thanks to its pleasant smell and great performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to advances in science and the well and conscious work of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chemical industry<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more and more data is available on the ingredients used in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">production of fragrances<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and aromas, including data focused on preserving the safety and health of the consumer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The concentration of use of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lilial<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been limited in the field of perfumery by the standards determined by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IFRA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The International Fragrance Association<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) since 2007. However, in November 2018, the ECHA&#8217;s Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) concluded a harmonised classification of Lilial as CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic for reproduction).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On November 22, 2018, the ECHA\u2019s Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) concluded on a harmonised classification and labelling for reproductive toxicity of Lysmeral\u00ae Extra (BMHCA; 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The restriction applies to BMHCA as such, as constituent of other substances, or, in mixtures and implies in practice the following points, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:32021R2204&amp;from=EN\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Official Journal of the European Union<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BMHCA cannot be placed on the market or used in products sold to the general public (consumers) when its concentration is equal or above the generic concentration limit specified in part 3 of Annex I of the EU CLP &#8211; i.e., 0.3%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BMHCA may be placed on the market and used in products sold for professional use above the classification concentration limit of equal or above 0.3%. In this case the packaging of such substances and mixtures has to be marked visibly, legibly, and indelibly as \u2018Restricted to professional users.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This classification of the substance has been a real challenge for the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">perfumery industry<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, since the development of an alternative capable of replacing the olfactory benefits of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lilial<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while producing similar formula performance is a fairly complex process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response, <\/span><b>Bordas is proud to announce that our team of expert perfumers has developed a substitute for Lilial, internally called Mugal.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This creation has been possible thanks to the active participation of Bordas in different entities and associations of the industry of which it is a member, allowing the Perfumery department to overcome this new regulatory challenge without significantly interfering with our clients&#8217;
