Flavour Modulation and Digestive Health. Bordas Solutions at Food Tech Mexico 2026

The food and beverage sector is in constant evolution, seeking the perfect balance between flavour, health and technological viability. At Bordas, we experienced this transformation first-hand during the recent edition of Food Tech CDMX, held from 30 September to 1 October 2026 at the Centro Banamex.

For us, participating in this event has once again been an extremely enriching experience. It allowed us to present our citrus flavonoid portfolio to leading companies in the sector, identify potential joint applications and, above all, identify real commercial opportunities for our ingredients.

The conversations we had made clear a latent need in the industry: to find solutions for specific formulation challenges, particularly in flavour modulation, bitterness masking and sweetness optimisation.

Key areas of interest and solutions presented

During the event, we were able to evaluate ingredients through samples and technical documentation, highlighting the following key areas that set the pulse of the trade fair:

  1. Flavour modulation and bitterness masking

The optimisation of the sensory profile was, without doubt, one of the most tangible commercial opportunities. Many companies are looking to improve the flavour of their formulations when faced with bitter notes or difficulties in achieving ideal sweetness. In this context, we highlighted two of our flagship solutions:

  • CITRONEO®: Excellent for flavour modulation and masking bitter and metallic notes.
  • NAROMINE®: Ideal for bitterness masking, flavour modulation and enhancing the sweetness profile.

During the trade fair, interesting opportunities emerged for CITRONEO®. A company developing two new products shared their difficulties in reaching the desired sweetness without resorting to stevia and showed interest in evaluating our ingredient. Likewise, another company familiar with the use of NHDC in flavour applications expressed interest in testing CITRONEO®. Both contacts open the door to exploring new applications for our flavonoids and following up on potential collaborations.

  1. Sugar reduction and sweetness optimisation

Reducing sugar remains the industry’s major challenge. Ingredients such as CITRONEO® and NAROMINE®, used at low doses, improve sensory balance, modulate flavour and mask unwanted notes. Their use provides significant technological advantages to companies looking to refine their sweetening systems, perfectly complementing the interest in bitterness masking.

  1. Antioxidant capacity and protection against oxidation

Another key application of our portfolio is protection against oxidation in food matrices. This is where CITRIFLAV® and NAROXIN® shine. Their proven antioxidant capacity is backed by technical studies, including rigorous assays using the ORAC method. This allows us to differentiate laboratory-validated technological benefits from their real-world application in each food product.

  1. Prebiotic effect and gut microbiota

Bordas’ scientific positioning also encompasses digestive health. At the trade fair, we shared how studies on our ingredients explore their effects on gut microbiota and their contribution to the production of short-chain fatty acids (such as acetate, propionate and butyrate). This line of research allows us to offer unique multifunctionality, combining technological applications with potential digestive benefits (always communicating with rigour and grounded in current evidence).

The highlight: The prebiotic effect of sweeteners

One of the key highlights at our stand was the presentation of our new study on the prebiotic effect of sweeteners. This research is vital because it unites two worlds: on the one hand, technical functionality to modulate sweetness, and on the other, its interaction with the microbiota. It offers a new perspective that reinforces the multifunctional nature of our ingredients and will undoubtedly be a central theme in our upcoming communications.

Multifunctional citrus ingredients

Everything outlined above underlines the versatility of the Bordas portfolio. Our citrus-derived ingredients provide a comprehensive response: offering everything from flavour modulation and antioxidant capacity to benefits under research for the microbiota. This combination consolidates our positioning as providers of expert solutions for food and beverage development.
